Other Areas of Practice

Art

Outside of my work in UX, I’ve exhibited work internationally as an artist over the last 25 years, with paintings in permanent and museum collections. In 2007, I published a monograph of paintings that I have seen sell for as much as $900 in the used book market.

Music

I have been writing, recording, and performing music in my spare time since I was a child. I’ve released many albums, as well as having recorded demos for other bands, and performed as live keyboard player for the band Young Hunting. I also like building guitars out of parts.

Collecting Art

I have been collecting art since the 1990s, with unique and editioned work by contemporary artists of note, including Nan Goldin, Jeff Koons, Luke Whitlatch, Mark Roeder, Noah Davis, Jimmy Baker, Nick Lowe, Kristin Calabrese, Joshua Aster, Alison Shulnik, Nathaniel Russell, Michelle Blade, Brian Wills, and others.

Graphic Design

I have designed countless t-shirts, a dozen album covers and related packaging, done many brand iterations, and helped entrepreneurs realize ideas in visual form from beverages to podcasts.

I have a long history of designing branded merchandise since learning silkscreening in high school.

Shopify

In 2019 I opened None Apparel, an online store for clothes I designed and musical instruments I curated via drop shipping, relating to a niche music scene.

Sales from the None store placed it the top 10% of all Shopify stores launched at the same time, a ranking I maintained until it’s closure a year later (too busy).

During the pandemic I opened Chroma Obscura, a Shopify store for abstract, color-based puzzles made to be completed in about 2-4 hours. I designed the puzzles myself, and again used a drop shipping model.
